TCU can crash the party.

And not in a Utah if/then sort of scenario. Though the looming Cincinnati-Pittsburgh matchup does bear watching. Put it this way, here's what we know.

1) The computer algorithims are flawed. Texas should not leapfrog TCU by beating Baylor when a ranked TCU beats Utah.

2) The winner of the SEC looks like a lock for one half-of the BCS.

3) The Big 12 Championship game is a 50-50 propisition for entry into the BCS title game.

Now, I know what you're saying. Either they win or they lose, right? it's a 50-50 shot. But here's the deal. There have been 13 games in the history of the Big 12 championship. 10 have had a team either ranked first or second, or with circumstances earlier in the day leading to a win and they're in scenario.

5 teams lost. Now, I grant the premise that Missouri losing in 2007 was not exactly an upset. They played and lost to Oklahoma earlier in the year, after all. But in 1996? Nebraska lost a chance at the Bowl Alliance Championship Series because James Brown was a man on fire. Kansas State has experienced both sides of the coin. Michael Bishop got shocked. And they beat the Heisman trophy winner in 2003.

And Mack Brown has been shocked before by a highly motivated BCS North team that finished strong. Gary Barnett had a National Championship Caliber team for the right two weeks in 2001. And the Longhorns? Don't exactly have the strongest record in the title games.

If Wyoming doesn't shock TCU this week? There's going to be a world changing BCS event. Or a 1 in 3 chance, anyway.

And now? Utah has to get the AP National Championship.

Forget about USC. Utah played a stronger schedule. They did. USC can blame the utter incompetence of the state of Washington, but USC cannot be considered as a national title contender.

Forget about Texas. You had to struggle to beat Ohio State this year? You can essentially go fuck yourself. Ohio State's big win was Michigan State. They were a team tailor made to get their ass kicked by the Georgia Bulldogs.

And in this instant, we can say the Florida-Oklahoma winner deserves half of it. It's fine. We have no problem calling the Bowl with No Name a National Championship Game.

But Utah ran the table. Utah played 5 teams that were ranked during the year. That's not as many as Florida or Oklahoma. But Florida loaded up on paper tigers. Georgia. LSU. South Carolina. Vanderbilt. And they lost to an Ole Miss team that didn't develop a swagger until they escaped out of Arkansas.

So give Utah a split National Championship. Give Oklahoma and Florida the other one. And ESPN? Break up the BCS please. The top 2 teams will never play with the comedic joke that is the Preseason Polling. So this needs to stop.

It is almost as if the BCS needed to make a dumber move...

To quiet the shouting of Texas fans, who do have a case that they got screwed.

(Beat Oklahoma on a neutral field, their loss was better than Florida's.)

But the simple fact that Ohio State gets a BCS game while Boise State gets the Poinsettia Bowl? Comedy. What exactly have the Buckeyes done?

Been a "quality" win to both Rose Bowl opponents.
Had a stirring comeback versus 7-5 Wisconsin (And need I mention that I was the only one who said that Cal Poly could beat the Badgers?)
Beat two ranked teams handily.
Ranked behind Boise State in all three major polls.
Tied for the Big 10 Conference Championship when even the staunchest Big 10 Homer would call it a down year.
Did I freaking mention that Boise State is more highly ranked by the computers as well?
Oh, and Boise State ran the freaking table beating two ranked teams with some force along the way.

So would you call this a good business decision? I wouldn't. Do you think a mid-major school with a shot at the big time would not bring the thunder with tickets and packages, even in this tough economic time? And lest we forget, the bowl Ohio State is currently slated to lose would be a return trip for Boise States greatest moment of athletic glory? And do you think another shocker couldn't happen?

This is the largest blight of Bowl Season. Not BYU to Vegas? Mormons built Vegas at the side of Howard Hughes! It's that an unbeaten team has to play before Christmas.
